Angra dos Reis

Angra dos Reis

There are few places so adequate for the practice of nautical sports and scuba diving in Brazil as Angra dos Reis. The visibility is excellent during the whole year in almost every diving spot and gets even better during summer. Many companies offer diving courses and special tours for divers, who use to leave in embarkations for some specific areas of the coast, especially for places where there were shipwrecks.

Among the most visited places there’s Praia de Jurubaíba (Jurubaíba Beach), as well as Ilha de Paquetá (Paquetá Island) and Saco do Céu, this one at Ilha Grande. The city is a reference for sailors and frequently hosts national and international regattas. Angra dos Reis also have excellent spots for fishing. Fishermen usually go to Baía da Ribeira (Ribeira Bay) and Ilha dos Porcos (Isle of the Pigs).

As if the beauty of the sea’s crystal clear water wasn’t enough, there are also options for those who seek just calmness. Just have to choose one of the 365 isles, which, together, have more than 2000 beaches.

People can’t miss Mambucaba, the liveliest beach of the city. It’s also worth to know Praia Grande do Frade, where there’s a small residential district. However, on any beach of the city, tourists don’t get disappointed. They just have to decide if they prefer a structured place, with kiosks and restaurants, or if they prefer a more tranquil place.

Despite the natural attractions, there’s much culture and history to appreciate in Angra dos Reis. “Casa de Câmara e Cadeia” and “Convento do Carmo” are examples of the architecture of the 17th century. A curiosity of the historic center is that the streets were built with curves, to meet the wind trajectory.

Located 168km away from Rio de Janeiro, Angra dos Reis is a refugee for people who can pay for comfort and for the privilege of living - or at least having a beach house - in a marvelous place. Involved by Mata Atlântica, there are luxury condominiums, resorts and hotels that lodge thousands of tourists in the weekends, especially artists, who arrive to join the nightlife of the city.
