Cidade de Goiás |
The old houses and the narrow walkways with stones give the impression that nothing
changed since the time of the city foundation, in the 18th century. Extremely well preserved, the electric cables are all underground
and the street lights imitate lanterns, exactly to keep the mythical and rustic atmosphere of Cora Coralina’s homeland.
Mankind Historic Patrimony, title granted by UNESCO, Cidade de Goiás has museums
and churches from the colonial period that constitute the most demanded attractions by tourists. It’s advisable to know “Centro Histórico” by
foot. Exactly because it lost the post of State capital to Goiânia, most of the historic buildings kept the same shape since their construction
epoch.
The city has an intense social and cultural life, besides preserving important
folkloric traditions. The most important celebrations occur during “Semana Santa”, with “Procissão do Fogaréu”.
