Lages is the biggest city of the mountain region of Santa Catarina. The city is
the origin of rural tourism at Brazil on the decade of 1980, when some of the most traditional farms, with centuries of existence, opened their
doors to receive visitors interested in rest on a calm atmosphere.
In the farm hotels, tourists know the daily routine of those who live in the
country side, being able to accompany the cow milking, besides tasting delicacies like the “churrasco” and “arroz carreteiro”. The menu is quite
domestic, formed by typical farm dishes, like “revirado de feijão com pele e torresmo” and other dishes that use “pinhão” as main ingredient,
since it’s from a tree very abundant in the region. Try “paçoca de pinhão”.
By being located on a place privileged by nature, Lages offers innumerous
entertainment alternatives for those who like adventure sports. Walk through eco trails, visits to waterfalls and swimming in rivers must be
added to the course of those visiting “Serra Catarinense”. The adepts of sport fishing have the chance of fishing trouts, which are abundant in
the rivers of clear and cold waters.
Those looking for cultural programs don’t get disappointed. The variety of
spectacles is large, so much that the city hosts “Festival Nacional de Teatro” (National Theater Festival). In June, there’s “Festa do Pinhão”,
one of the biggest events of Brazil’s South region, with music shows of national and international artists. During this period, the city
receives an average of 300000 people, who also have the opportunity of tasting beverages and delicious dishes during the ten party days. In
Lages, try “sapecada de pinhão”.
