| Porto Alegre - Presentation |
With more than one million trees spread along the sidewalks,
squares, parks, hills and even islands form the city of Porto Alegre, considered one of the places with the largest amount of trees
in Brazil. So much nature contrasts with the urban life of the capital which is very agitated culturally speaking. However in spite
of being a great metropolis with almost two million inhabitants, the people preserve the habits of a country town, with long and warm
talks in "chimarrão" cicles.
All those preservation areas that acknowledge the city that takes such
good care of the environmental preservation is not enough, Porto Alegre was built on the margins of the Lagoa dos Patos, another natural
wealth where the Rio Guaiba discharges. The tourists usually take boat rides on the lake, which is one of the post-cards of the city with it
beautiful clean sweet water beaches, which attract nautic sports fans or just those who like to sit and watch time go by in the shade of the
hundred year old fig trees planted in its orle.
The trees frame the oldest constructions up to the new buildings based on the
modern and well structured urban plan of Porto Alegre. The city also has a strategic position for business of the Mercosul because it is
located between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires and Montevidéo, located in Argentina and Uruguay.
It is not a surprise therefore, that a city that gives so much importance to
nature offers choices of leisure to promote the ecological consciousness among the people. The Botanic Garden has a natural collection of
more than 100 species, is open everyday and offers several monitored visits for tourists. The Museum of Natural Sciences is another popular
choice, but various types of theme museums end up becoming alternatives for recreation that also contribute to the cultural formation for
the residents as well as for the tourists.
The capital also holds a number of International Theater Festivals
besides waking up the nostalgia of the older people with the bars and cafes in the district of Cidade Baixa, that remember the Bohemian
period.
Even though the city has a climate divided in four seasons, there is a
certain predomination of the cold in Porto Alegre. On the cold mornings, besides the chimarrão, the use of the Poncho, a typical clothing
of the southern region, which is a type of blanket, has became a uniform.
To be a large city with the lif of the country is maybe one of the secrets
of the charms of Porto Alegre, That gather together a happy, talk ative and the most importamt of all, very hospitable people. |
