As well as the story of Árvore dos Enforcados, the story of Filomena Tomb also
presents a sad plot. The legend says that Filomena was a slave who became severely ill. Some people say that she contracted "bexiga
preta", as smallpox was known at that time in Brazil.
With the intention of not infecting the people who lived with her, she was buried
alive. Today, the tomb became a tour spot due to the terrible story, so common in the slavery time. |
