Radioactive Fountain

Situated next to Grande Hotel, Araxá Thermal Springs is highly demanded by tourists not only for its relaxing baths, but also because of the therapeutic effects of its waters. It’s told that the waters have radioactive properties beneficial for the treatment of several illnesses, like stomach problems, hepatitis and skin problem. The legend says that these baths were the secret of the beauty and enchant of Dona Beja, a woman ahead of her time, who seduced the men of the city in the 19th century.

Araxá Thermal Springs has reserved spaces for bathtubs with several bath options, including the mud bath, one of the most known. There’s also a swimming pool baptized "emanatória", because it releases steam from its waters, which are 37ºC.

A mystic atmosphere is noted in the architecture and in the decoration elements, which uses the number eight to attract good vibrations. This is kept to the ground, where there’s a mandala with eight tips. The lying numeral is the symbol of “infinite” and brings good vibrations, causing a balance in the atmosphere.

Besides being responsible for the beauty of Dona Beja, other legends can be heard there. One says that, after some therapeutic baths, Getúlio Vargas cured his gastritis. Another one says that the Sweden National Soccer Team, accommodated in a hotel next to Termas do Araxá, started a series of successive victories after bathing in the reinvigorating waters of Araxá during 1958 World Cup.
