Casa típica da Colônia de Santa Isabel |
Coming from Hunsrück, the germans that constituted “Colônia Santa Isabel” in 1847
were, in their majority, of catholic and Lutheran origin. It was the first colony of immigrants formed in the State of Santa Catarina and
received this name in homage to Princess Isabel.
At that time, it was part of “Caminho das Tropas”, road that connected the coast
side and “Planalto de Santa Catarina”. In the first years of the community, the population raising was attributed only to the residents of Santa
Isabel, germans who had at their disposition irregular lands not proper to any kind of plantation. Years later, the Government started to send
immigrants to the place, what ended up occasioning the formation of other german communities. In 1865, the Government of the Empire unified the
colony of Santa Isabel with Teresópolis.
Tourists that arrive to Águas Mornas can visit the typical village, considered
the most traditional of all old colonies of the region. There works “Parque Aquático Primavera”, but it’s open for visitation during some months
of the year.
