| Angra dos Reis - Church - Nossa Senhora do Carmo Convent |
Nossa Senhora do Carmo Convent |
The building was constructed in the first half of the 17th century and,
according to historians, it was reformed between the 18th and 19th centuries. A church is in honor to the church and is
attached to the convent, which is dated from the same epoch.
The church has small windows spaced in the superior floor and wider doors in the
ground floor. The building still has cells that were built in the place where formerly there was a balcony and a tower. The dome is covered with
glazed tiles. The carvings, dated from the 19th century, impresses, besides giving a more delicate aspect to the building.
The church and convent “Nossa Senhora do Carmo” and the patrimony of old sacred
objects that they house are registered as national patrimony by IPHAN (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional).
