Aquidauana |
Aquidauana is essentially a destination for fishing and the practice of eco tourism.
Calm and hospitable, it is bathed by the homonym river, known for its great fish abundance. As people can imagine, fishing is one of the main
economical activities and the location is one of the biggest fish suppliers for the great urban centers of Brazil.
Located 140km away from Campo Grande, capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul,
Aquidauana is constantly visited by tourists who seek for a higher contact with nature. One of the lodging options are the farms, which, day by
day improve their capacity to reception guests. For being inserted in the Pantanal, the farms not only allow tourists to participate in the daily
activities, but also organize tours. Most of the farms have special vehicles to move in the region, horses, boats and equipment for sport
fishing.
There are those interested only in fishing, without any concerns about comfort or
other picturesque tours. For those tourists, the hint is to stay in simpler accommodations on the fishing places. The best time for fishing is
between July and October.
Pantanal of Aquidauana, as well as the one found in the neighbor city of Miranda,
are in higher grounds and don’t flood during the rainy season. Since the cattle and the plantations are not prejudiced, the economy of the city
is also based in agriculture and cattle breeding.
In Aquidauana, it’s worth to visit “Mercado Municipal” (Municipal Market), where
objects and pieces of indian craftsmanship are sold. To know more about the habits of the region, besides watching photos and old documents, go
visit “Museu de Arte Pantaneira”.
