| Belo Horizonte - Churches - Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church |
Built originally in Vila Rica, in 1705, Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church was
transferred, in 1727, to Belo Horizonte. However, only the altar and the nave’s carvings are the same. The actual facade was concluded only in
1854.
Seat of various brotherhoods, Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church is an important part
of Minas Gerais history, although several relevant documents about the work and the events it hosted were lost. The building has a major chapel,
lateral corridors and sacristy. It has four panels representing the disciples Pedro and Paulo and the saints Ambrósio and Gregório.
There’s other panel, also from unknown authorship, that symbolizes the evangelists
João, Mateus, Lucas and Marcos with their symbols: eagle, the angel, the bull and the lion respectively. There’s also other works like “cordeiro”,
“paixão de cristo” and “mandamentos de São Lourenço Petriza”, made in 1833.
