Pampulha Art Museum |
Formerly a casino, the building was built in 1940 and was the first Project of
architect Oscar Niemeyer. It become Pampulha Museum in 1957, after the law against gambling was established in Brazil.
With ample space, it provides an optic joke, with curves, ramps and mirror walls
that resembles to the baroque style. In the garden, several sculptures like “Figura Alada”, from José Pedrosa, and “Nu”, from Zaimoiski, can be
found. It also counts with the landscape work of Burle Marx.
Most of the works are made by artists like Oswaldo Goeldi, Fayga Ostrower, Anna
Letycia, Di Cavalcanti and Bruno Giorgi among others.
Though promoting periodic exhibits, the museum keeps a permanent exhibit, located
at the mezzanine, with works of the mentioned artists. The temporary exhibits can be seen at the main hall. The museum also counts with
auditorium, coffee, library research center and souvenir store.
