Pampulha Complex |
Pampulha Complex was idealized in the beginning of the 40’s, by, then, mayor
Juscelino Kubitschek. Architect Oscar Niemeyer was called to develop a Project to modernize the region of represa da Pampulha (Pampulha’s Dam).
In the beginning, the construction of a casino, a club, the mayor’s weekend house and a church were anticipated
In 1943, the works were finished. The constructions were erected at the margins
of the lagoon, just to be reflected by the water. The house of Kubitschek served of incentive to the society of that time to occupy that area
of the city and, when gambling was prohibited in Brazil, the casino became a museum. Church São Francisco de Assis has panels made by Portinari
that illustrates “Via Sacra”
One of the most pleasant places of Belo Horizonte, Pampulha offers, along the edge
of the lake, other entertainment options, like cycle and walk ways. There are also located “Estádio Mineirão”, “Mineirinho” and the zoo
The architectonical set of Pampulha is registered as National Art and History
Patrimony by IPHAN
