As well as “Jardim Botânico”, the zoo of Belo Horizonte also integrates Fundação
Zôo-botânica. Founded in 1959, the park has 214 species and around 1000 animals, among reptiles, birds and mammals
One of the most interesting works realized in the zoo is the program of species
in extinction danger handling. Among the protected animals are “cervo do Pantanal”, “mico-leão-dourado” and jaguatirica. There are almost 200
mammals, from more than 50 animals considered exotic
Tourists must know the birds section, composed by Praça da Aves (birds square),
Área dos Pássaros Coloridos (colorful birds area) and the Swans and Flamingo lakes. In the Reptile section, the public watch serpents, lizards
and turtles on a planed environment, with heating system and artificial rain
