One of the great attractions of the city is Central Market, place curiously loved
by the residents and seen as one of the most traditional points of Belo Horizonte. The market, built in 1929, comports various stores and
provide an immense variety of products, like craftsmanship goods, to visitors.
There are straw pieces, soapstone, bamboo and vines. Among the several odors and
colors, visitors get lost in the middle of so many options. At Praça do Abacaxi (Pineapple Square), consumers can taste the fruit while listen
to sellers, who demonstrate a deep knowledge about the product. The bars show a relaxing atmosphere that was created inside the market. They
are always crowded and became meeting point of friends who meets to drink a beer at weekends.
It has around 380 stores and is property of “Cooperativa dos Ocupantes do Mercado”,
who bought it from the prefecture in auction system.
