Belo Horizonte - Others - Amendoim Street

Amendoim Street

Amendoim Street

Amendoim Street is part of the folklore of Belo Horizonte and ended up becoming a tour attraction due to a curious phenomenon. Nobody knows exactly the motive why this happen, but the fact is that every car parked in the slope goes up, instead of going down, as it should go. The same happens when water is poured in the street, instead of going down, it takes the inverse way and goes up.

There are people defending the thesis that it’s an optic illusion. They say that the lower part of the street is, in truth, the highest point. But there’s no confirmation. Rua do Amendoim has the official name of Professor Otávio Magalhães and is close to Praça do Papa.
