Capital of Minas Gerais, place of one of the most representative cuisines in
Brazil, Belo Horizonte posses strong traditions in gastronomical fairs. They even say that people of Minas Gerais is preserved in alcohol due
to the great number of bars in the town, what gave origin to irreverent contests, like Comida di Buteco, where people choose which one is the
best appetizer for a happy hour. The city also promotes annually “Feira Internacional da Cachaça” and “Belô Sabor”.
But, not everything that occurs in Belo Horizonte is related to the delicious
cuisine of Minas Gerais. Belo Horizonte is a modern city, also turned for business tourism and constantly seat of important national and
international events. There are about 50 auditoriums to host events of great scale all over the city, which also counts with good hotel
infrastructure and restaurants of international quality.
Besides being the starting point for historic tour routes in Minas Gerais
countryside, Belo Horizonte has some really old constructions. The architectonical prominences are the buildings constructed in the middle of
the 20th century, works of architect Oscar Niemeyer and landscaper Burle Marx.
One of the main tour spots is the edge of Pampulha, where the lake’s water served
as inspiration to the project of Casa do Baile, totally integrated with Church São Francisco de Assis. The eclectic beauty of Praça da Liberdade
witnessed the primordial times of Belo Horizonte’s history. It was there that the commemorations of the city inauguration happened, in 1897. The
public square has old buildings, which house the secretaries and the seat of the State Government, and some other buildings not so old, like
Residencial Edifício Niemeyer.
There are many museums in Belo Horizonte. It couldn’t be any different, since it’s
the financial heart of a place with extremely rich history. There are from fossil exhibits to objects of the colonial era and collections of
modern art. Belo Horizonte, by the way, unites culture and entertainment. There are 13 shopping centers, besides the traditional craftsmanship
fairs.
Who seeks entertainment, finds several alternatives at Savassi, the most demanded
district at night. Bars, restaurants and night clubs offer the most varied spectacles to entertain tourists of all ages. Even to those who enjoys
nature, ends up surprised with the options found in Belo Horizonte’s vicinity. Located in a region with plenty of springs, there are 27 parks
spread through the city and green areas ideal for practicing sports. Surrounded by Serra do Cipó, there are many trails, caves and waterfall
with crystal clear water.
