Marco do Descobrimento
Built in demarcate the possession of
the land, symbolizing the power of the Portuguese Crown, a large Cruz de Cristo
(Cross of Christ) of almost 150m was struck in the ground. At the top of the
Cross the arms of Portugal and the Cross of Chist were sculptured in opposite
sides. The date is not exact, it could have been in 1503 by Gonçalo Coelho or in
1526 by Cristovão Jacques, that made the first reconnaissance of Brazil.

Town Halland Jail
(Casa da Câmara e Cadeia)
Built by the Jesuits in the 18th
century ( 1772), it is one of the most beautiful building of the colonial Brazil
where today you will find the Museu Histórico da Cidade or Museu do
Descobrimento (Museum of the Discovery), together with the IPHAN - Instituto do
Patrimônio Histórico Nacional (Institut of the National History Patrimony).

The Old Telegraph Station

This old two floor building of the
19th century is of extreme beauty. Annexed to it is another building of the same age.
