    The tourist who travels to Brazil should take same precautions with health to avoid having the trip turned into a true peregrination to doctor’s offices and hospitals here, there are a series of viruses and bacteria that don’t exist in other countries and, because of this the organism of a foreigner doesn’t always react. The result could be tragic; however, there is a simple way of prevention: the vaccination.

    Before traveling to Brazil or to any other country in the world, the best is to consult a doctor to know how you can prevent the most common sicknesses of each region. The ideal is to take all the vaccinations one month before to really be immune.

    Brazil, like most of the other countries in the world, requires an International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever for tourists coming from places where this disease exists. For those who are visiting the Brazilian Cerrado also have to protect them selves, mainly when the destination in the region of the Amazon. However other vaccinations that are optional are recommended for those who don’t want any problem during the trip. Among the vaccinations that ate most indicated are against the Flu Hepatitis B, measles, Tetanus and Mumps.

Yellow Fever

 

    On arriving in Brazil, the tourist must present the International Certificate of Vaccination to prove that he is immune against Yellow Fever; otherwise he may be prohibited to remain in Brazil. The document is required from travelers who come from: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Columbia, Democratic, Cango Republic, Ecuador, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Serra Leoa, Sudan, Venezuela and Zaire. It is recommended for tourists who visit the central west, north and northeast of the country, including Brasilia.

    It is worth mentioning that there are people who cannot take vaccinations like diabetics, carries of Aids, pregnant women, babies under 6 months, people who do chemotherapy or are being submitted to a transplant of organs. However the doctor is the most indicated person to evaluate each case. The vaccination against yellow fever gives 10 years protection.

 

Polio

 

    Children under six should be vaccinated against Polio in order to obtain a Visa.

 

Cholera

 

    There still exists cholera in Brazil and any foreigner who wants to visit Brazil protects himself. There are two types of vaccination but northern of them guarantee total immunization.

 

Hepatitis B

 

    It is a sexually transmitted disease, therefore it is fundamental the use of condoms. The vaccination against Hepatitis B is also efficient, but doesn’t completely dominate the risk.

 

Malaria

 

    There is no vaccination against malaria. The best way to avoid contamination is to use repellent.
