Brasília - Historical Buildings - National Congress

National Congress

National Congress

Postcard of the capital of Brazil, the work of Oscar Niemeyer has an uncommon design, making evident the two arches which represents the councils of the Legislative Power. One of them is bigger and houses the chamber of deputies. The smaller one houses the Federal Senate.

The architectonical set has two vertical building with 28 floors each, where the administrative services of the two chambers are done. As time passed, other rooms and cabinets were constructed to house the components of the government.

Visits are possible inside the National Congress if monitored, allowing a walk through the corridors of the legislative power in the capital of Brazil. “Salão Nobre”, the chambers, “Salões Verde” and “Salão Negro” are obligatory parts of the route to know closely the place where the laws of Brazil are discussed, made and approved. In the millinery there’s a little patrimony of old furniture coming form the building where, formerly, was the Senate in Rio de Janeiro. There are works of Di Cavalcanti, Alfredo Ceschiatti and Carybé among others.
