Alvorada Palace |
Palácio da Alvorada was projected by the famous architect/engineer Oscar Niemeyer
in 1956, even before the plan of changing the capital from Rio de Janeiro to Brasília. It’s the official residence of the president and highly
visited tour spot, although the entrance is not allowed.
The building has a rectangular shape with two floors and an underground floor, with
columns covered with marble. In the building there’s also a chapel, giving a friendly look to the atmosphere.
The house has a small patrimony of art works, like sculptures of Ceschiatti and
Maria Martins. The golden glazed tiles, made by Athos Bulcão, and the chapel stained glass calls attention. The responsible for the landscape set
if landscaper Roberto Burle Marx, also responsible for other similar works in Brasília. |
