Zoo |
The zoo was the first center in benefit of the preservation of the nature
constructed in Brasília, built in the middle of the 50’s. In 1957 December, the park was finally inaugurated and soon became a great
entertainment option for residents and tourists. The Zoo also works as instrument of research and divulgation of environmental education of
researchers, biologists and environmentalists.
The park has a program of rescue of the environmental memory. Exhibitions are
frequently promoted, with displays of old material, like photos donated or loaned by visitors. The initiative is not just to enrich the local
patrimony, but also to organize exhibitions open to the public.
With an area of 140 hectares, the zoo houses about 1300 animals, distributed in
253 species, among mammals, birds and reptiles. There’s a great entertainment area with infrastructure with restaurant, arena theater, auditorium,
library and a museum with stuffed animals. A space away from animal is available for barbecues.
