Museu dos Povos Indígenas

With the appearance of an Ianomâni house, the building projected by Niemeyer comports “Museu dos Povos Indígenas”, space that aims the preservation of the culture of the people who first inhabited Brazil, besides organizing lectures about the theme. The construction, 1400 m² wide, was built in spiral shape and has natural ventilation due to openings in the ceiling.

The memorial promotes exhibitions and presentations of dances in the courtyard, which is covered by a terrace that produces the similar effect of an acoustic box. It also has a movie theater with capacity for 48 people, store and a technical reserve. Soon there’ll be a library.

It was inaugurated in 1995, with right to an indian ritual that reunited several entities that struggle for the preservation of their culture, besides counting with the presence of artists, intellectuals and the local population. One year later, 300 pieces were donated to the museum by anthropologists, including two panels made by Xingu indians.
