Santo Antônio’s Church |
Santo Antônio is famous for leaving his family of bourgeois origins to dedicate
himself to the poors. Patron saint of Campo Grande, he lived up to the middle of 1231 and was canonized in 1934.
The chuch’s story says that José Antônio Pereira, founder of Campo Grande, caught
yellow fever during his expedition. Although being a doctor, José Antônio couldn’t solve the problem, then evocated the saint and suddenly got
better. As soon as he arrived at his destination, as a gratitude sign, the traveler built a church in the name of Santo Antônio de Pádua.
The construction of baroque style made in the name of Santo Antônio in Campo rande was demolished in 1922 to give place to a new building
with more modern architecture.
