Igreja de São Francisco |
The building is considered one of the most beautiful of Campo Grande and is
property of the Franciscan Order. At the very beginning of the Franciscan Order’s story in the city, when the works were still being done, the
masses were celebrated on a rented hall.
The church was completed in 1955 with the contribution of the city’s residents,
who, farther donating the construction materials, also adopted the Franciscans friars, giving them the necessary to survive. The stained
glasses were made and given by a community of Italian artisans.
It was reformed in 1996, now housing a convent. The activities of the church goes
from praying groups to social assistance, besides comporting the most important organs connected to the church in the region, like Dom Bosco
Catholic University, the Theology Institute, the bishop’s house and the Ecclesiastic Tribunal.
