Congonhas - Churches - Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church

Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church

Well known for sheltering artworks of the great artist Aleijadinho, Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church is a construction built by slaves, dated from the end of the 17th century. It’s considered as one of the oldest churches of the city and has the major altar entirely dedicated to São Francisco de Assis. The facade, according to scholars, was made possibly in the 19th century and has a tower covered with roof tiles.

Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church has nave and lateral sacristies, with singularities in the finishing, like adorns in rococo and neoclassical style. In the ceiling, what drives attention the most is the painting in the central part, which picture images of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and São Domingos.

The objects of the building were registered as national historic patrimony.
