Maciço do Urucum |
Maciço do Urucum is famous because it’s the highest rock formation of
Mato Grosso. Dated from the Proterozoic ages. It has immense reserves of hematite and manganese. Its deposits are under control of
Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, which was privatized by the Federal government.
During the colonial epoch, the region was inhabited by tupi-guarani
indians tribe, who were productors of ceramics. The place was good for plantations, because of the suave temperature, and also good
for hunting due to the diversity of the ecosystem.
It’s located at the right side of Paraguai River, south of Corumbá. |
