Cuiabá - Tours - Várzea Grande

Just one bridge separates the cities of Várzea Grande and Cuiabá. Due to this proximity with the capital, Várzea Grande is a modern location, with uncountable urban enticements, especially bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Among the main attractions is the district of Capão Grande, famous for producing some very tasteful jerked meat. At Praia Grande, besides swimming, it’s possible to fish.

Várzea Grande was founded during Paraguay’s War. During the second half of 19th century, every paraguayan found at Cuiabá’s area were arrested and immediately sent back to the other margin of the river, inhabited only by indians and fishermen at that time.

When the conflict ended, Várzea Grande wasn’t just but a passageway for cattle herders and log, meat and leather suppliers to Cuiabá. The merchandise transport was made by boat until the construction of the bridge between the two cities, in 1942. The economic development occurred since 1945, with the arrival of electricity.
