| Destination - Costa do Cacau |
Around 180 kilometers located between Itacaré and Canavieiras all called the
"Costa do Cacau". The region is located in Bahia and is known this way because of the large number of Cacao plantations and of the influence
that this cultivations has over the people of the place.
The just seeds, originating from the Amazon Forest, were taken to Para in the
middle of the 18th century. Thanks to the mild climate and the quality of the land, the cacao trees grew very well all over the
territory of the Costa do Cacau, specially in Ilhéus.
As a matter of fact, the city known as the "Little Princess of the South"
suffered a large economical growth due to the profit that the big cacao planters had when they sold the fruit in the beginning of the
20th century. Ilheus became, therefore a prosperous place, with the right to have a grand cathedral, a magnificent municipal
theater and various museums.
Another attraction of the Costa do Cacau is the Ilha de Comandatuba, which
belongs to the municipal of Una. One of the largest resorts of the country, the Transamerica Hotel which has its own airport, was built on
the island.
The principal city of the Costa do Cacau, Ilhéus, has beaches with a good
