 Destination - Historic Patrimony

There are a great number of institutions responsible for evaluating potential candidates to receive the title of Historical Patrimony. Only in Brazil, besides the state and municipal organs, there is the Iphan – Instituto do Patrimonio Histórico e Artístico Nacional, which was created in 1937.

The Iphan is responsible for the registering and reforms in old buildings that are considered historical by the Institution. Buildings are not the only items considered Patrimony. Maps and documents movables land and even works of art are protected by the Iphan. Since its creation, more than 20 thousand building have been registered, including urban centers, without mentioning the almost two million objects with books, photographs and even VCR tapes in its files.

The Institution that identifies and cares of the world Heritage is the Unesco. They are buildings, monuments and other assets that have some type of value. When something is considered World Heritage, it belongs to all the people in the world no matter of the country where it is located.
