The same way that ancient building many times has a cultural and artist value, a
natural formation can have on equal value in the category of the Natural Heritage. Any area with a diversified fauna and flora can be listed as
an asset for humanity.
All the regions that represent part of the history of the planet and some of the
ecosystems are considered natural assets. Places of extreme beauty or natural habitats of threatened species are usually elected as Natural
Heritage.
The country has 17 assets considered world Heritage by Unesco. The majority of
them are cultural and historical assets. None of these places is listed by the Iphan – Istituto do Patrinomio Histórico e Artístico Nacional,
Brazil has the following Natural Heritage assets considered World Heritage by Unesco:
- Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, in
Paraná.
- Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara, in Piauí.
- Reservas of the South east of the Atlantic Forest.
- Pantanal, in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.
- Parque Nacional do Jaú, in
Amazonas.

Chapada dos Veadeiros, in Goiás.
- Parque Nacional das Emas, in Goiás.
- Reservas of Fernando de Noronha.
- Alto das Rocas.
