Diamantina - Museum - Chica da Silva House

Chica da Silva House

Chica da Silva House

The house belonged to João Fernandes de Oliveira, between the middle of 1763 and 1771, when he lived with Chica da Silva, legendary slave who lived in Minas Gerais. It’s considered a perfect representation of the architectonical style of Minas Gerais of the 18th century.

Made with mud walls, the house suffered some modifications as time passed. The laterals were enlarged and the garden probably had a chapel, since it has traces of access doors. On the interior, the house keeps its original characteristics, with wide planks and masonry walls.
