Built in 1766, church São Francisco de Assis calls attention for being on an
unusual place, gaining eminence in relation to the neighbor constructions. It was made in baroque and rococo style by the main artists of the
18th century.
One of the curiosities in the history of the church refers to the building’s roof,
where artist José Soares de Araújo decided to revenge against the members of the brotherhood. In the occasion, the church members didn’t pay the
previously agreed value to the artist, who ended up drawing images with the appearance of rats.
