| Diamantina - Church - Nosso Senhor do Bonfim dos Militares Church |
More known as "Igreja do Bonfim", the building is one of the oldest and better
preserved of Arraial do Tijuco, former village in Diamantina. The church, dated from 1771, is located in an elevated position in relation to the
street, giving a certain prominence to the construction.
In the temple are celebrated the traditional commemorations to Nossa Senhora das
Dores. The church was constructed by militaries, in the end of the 18th century, next to an army head quarter, which was situated
where today is Praça Monsenhor Neves. The church was baptized as Senhor do Bonfim dos Militares due to the proximity to the HQ. Militaries also
helped in the church construction.
