Nossa Senhora do Rosário Church |
In 1771, the members of Rosário’s Brotherhood started to build Nossa Senhora do
Rosário Church where formerly there was a chapel. The work was commanded by master Manuel Gonçalves. Only a few modifications were
made, like the façade and the sacristy.
The church, made in masonry and wood, was erected over an ample public square.
The main prominences of the church are the panels of the major chapel, with marble frames, authorship of artist José Soares de Araújo.
The church laterals have pictures of Virgem do Rosário, surrounded by angels and
clouds. A bluish gray predominates in the work, as well as the color effects that give an old look. The golden carvings illuminate the
composition.
