In former times used to flow off diamonds during the 18th century, the
path was paved by slaves in the 19th century. It was one of the main accesses to the mining fields of the region. Caminho dos Escravos,
as it became known, was also highly used by smugglers, who transported there the product of their crimes.
The access is done through the road that goes to Vale do Jequitinhonha.
