Built in neoclassical style, the actual “Prédio da Alfândega” was constructed in
1876 to substitute the first building, which was completely destroyed in a fire 10 years before. Today, it runs the Technical Office of IPHAN
(Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional) and ACAP (Associação Catarinense de Artistas Plásticos).
In the building it’s possible to also find a craftsmanship store, where articles
of artisans related to the association are sold, besides a coffee house, in front of “Largo da Alfândega”. Frequently there are exhibitions of
works of local artists.
