Santo Antônio Fortress |
Santo Antônio Fortress is located at “Ilha de Ratones”. Registered as Historic
Patrimony, it was constructed in 1740 to defend the North part of Florianópolis and counted with two cannon batteries, armed with 14 artillery
pieces each.
From the middle of 19th century to the 20th century, the
fortress was used as “Lazareto”, place where people with dangerous diseases were sent. Subsequently, it was used as coal warehouse until being
completely abandoned. Only in 1990, the fortress was restored and started to receive tourists.
Covered with “Mata Atlântica” (Tropical Forest), “ilha de Ratones” (Ratones Island)
has eco trails where environmental education tours are realized. To arrive there, it’s necessary to use the schooner services that leave from
different points of the city, among them Canasvieiras and Sambaqui beaches, “Trapiche da Beira Mar Norte” and the surrounding of Hercílio Luz
Bridge.
Address: Ratones Grande Island, North Bay. Access by sea. Schooners depart from different
points of the city. |
