Santa Catarina Historic Museum occupies Cruz e Souza Palace since 1986. Former seat
of the State government, the building is dated from the 18th century and served as residence for many province governors. The building
is registered as State Historic Patrimony.
The collection of the museum is constituted by furniture and objects related to the
political history of Santa Catarina. The rooms of the institution even try to recreate the atmosphere of the end of the 19th century
and beginning of the 20th century. In the ground floor, there’s a room in honor to poet “Cruz e Sousa”, but visitors can also know
the library of “Instituto Histórico e Geográfico” and the reserved rooms for cultural activities, where temporary exhibitions and other events
are done.
