Situated 25km away from the city’s downtown and with an atmosphere of a small
village, Armação Beach is one of the centers for the practice of fishing and one of the most demanded points for surfers and tourists that
search for exuberant landscapes and tranquility.
Armação Beach was fundamental for the development of Florianópolis; since it was
there that the oil was extracted from whales that run ashore in the sand. Besides the oil, meat, flippers and fat of the animal were commercialized,
stimulating the predatory fishing, what almost caused the extinction of the animals. Actually, the whales are protected and also a good source
of profit for the tourism of Santa Catarina, having their images linked to tour attractions. |
