FORTALEZA
Presentation
The constant breeze that blows from the sea is the natural ventilator of the city.
When the breeze stops, its impossible to stay even in the shade! Land of the Light, Capital of the Sun, Fortaleza never gets
cold, sometimes is cools off a bit, but it is hat all year long. Its golden colored sand and its greenish-blue sea are as
charmings as Iracema, the virgin of the lips of honey, conceived by the famous compatriot, the writer José de Alencar in his
romance.
This charming city is the type of city that says came in and make yourself at home,
take off your shoes, open the refrigerator and help yourself to a beer. And how they drink beer here! The people from Ceará say
that it is to reduce the heat and to hydrate the body. But, if this were true, the delicious custard apple, cashew and ciriguela
(a typical fruit of the North-East) juices would sell much more than the iced beer. And where you have beer, you have diversion.
The action begins on Mondays. Fortaleza is famous because it has "the most active monday of the world". The Iracema beach
is the preferred by the residents to see the sunset and begin the week on the fight foot. Those who wish to, can continue on the
other days but you must go to the Futuro beach on Thurdays. A traditional meeting point of bathers and surfers, Thursdays night the
beach transform itself into the principal animation of the capital, with live music shows and a lot of crab.
The capital of Ceará is a city that tries to combine the modern, with its luxurious
buildings and industries, to the culture and local custums, in the folkloric dances os "Bumba-Meu-Boi", the "Caninha
Verde" and the Forró foot on the floor, or in the arts with the skilful hands of the lace-makers and plastic artists. But there
is still a lot to be seen, from the border of the sea, the urbanized beaches, you can see the jangadas, small rustic boats used by
the Ceará fishermen, arriving from the open sea to supply the local market bringing the fish caught according to the ancestral fishing
methods. The lobstar, for example, one of the principal crustaceans of the region, is "caught" one by one by hand, the
fishermen don't use oxigen tanks or harpoons. |
