Theatro José de Alencar

View from stage |
With gardens made by landscaper Burle Marx and facade in neoclassical style,
Theatro José de Alencar draws attention of those passing by the streets of Fortaleza. Inaugurated in 1910, after two years of works, the place
was the symbol of civilization and progress of the city in the beginning of the past century.
Theatro José de Alencar is divided in two parts: the first, made of masonry and stones, hosts the
ticket stand in the ground floor and a foyer in the 2nd floor. The second part is the spectacle room, built in masonry and a metallic structure
brought from Scotland with art-nouveau stained glasses.
In 1990, Theatro José de Alencar passed through a reform and incorporated the neighbor buildings set.
The work transformed the place into a real Cultural Center, with three more independent stages and rooms for technical installations.
