Built in one of the richest periods in terms of cultural development of the city,
Santa Casa de Misericórdia was constructed in the middle of 1857 with the intuit of helping people fleeing from the dryness of less favored
regions to Fortaleza.
The idea surged on one of those dry occasions, in 1845, when hundreds of people
died due to the local misery, generating worry in the community and its governors. The place works up to nowadays, being reformed just one
time, preserving part of the history of the development of the city.
