Considered the oldest church of Fortaleza, Rosário Church was built in 1730 with
mud walls and dry grass. Only in 1755 it earned harder foundations, with the use of cal and cement in one of its reforms. The temple is
registered and State Patrimony.
According to historians, Rosário Church was constructed by the members of Nossa
Senhora dos Pretos Brotherhood, on an epoch when there was separation of ethnicities and social classes on a religious temple. It composes,
altogether with Museu do Ceará, Academia Cearense de Letras and Praça dos Leões, one of the most beautiful architectonical sets of
Fortaleza.
