Fortaleza - Others - Porto do Mucuripe

Mucuripe Harbor

Mucuripe Harbor

Also known as old Fortaleza’s Harbor, “Porto de Mucuripe” is located next to the Cathedral of Fortaleza and to “Monumento do Cristo Redentor”. For its construction, in 1875, many reefs had to be destroyed to increase the speed of the marine currents and make easy the access of the ships.

The harbor is one of the main responsible by the socio-economic development of Fortaleza, since it was through there that the goods arrived in the beginning of the city’s growth. Actually, it’s still happening, even with good traffic between Brazil and countries from Europe and Africa.
