Casa Cora Coralina

Casa Cora Coralina

Constructed in the middle of the 18th century and known as one of the first buildings of the city, “Casa de Cora Coralina” belonged first to the great-grandparents of the poetess and was passed from generation to generation. Formed by houses covered with the same ceiling, the house has architectonical characteristics that were much used in the colonial epoch. The house also counts with mud and stone walls, which served to protect the house from the waters of Vermelho River.

In the building there’s a small memorial in honor to the writer. There are exhibited small and colorful clothes she used and even a cooper pan that was used to make sweets, besides furniture, books, rough drafts and letters.

Actually, it’s the seat of “Fundação Cora Coralina”, responsible for keeping alive the memory and the work of the important brazilian writer. The house also has a mini-auditorium and the seat of “Pró-Ler”, a project to incentive reading.
