One of the most beautiful religious manifestations that happens at the city of
Goiás annually is “Procissão do Fogaréu”, which starts at Semana Santa’s Wednesday midnight. During this day, the stagings about “Paixão de
Cristo” (Passion of Christ) movement the city, which follows everything with devotion and curiosity.
The celebration, which gives sequence to a 200 years tradition, consists in stage
the main biblical passages that antecede the crucifixion through the streets of Goiás, from which “Procissão do Fogaréu” is part of. On it, the
“farricosos”, hooded men with colored clothes, carry lighten torches among the dark streets, representing the path of the Romans until the moment
of the arrest of Christ. During Thursday and Friday “Lava-Pés” and “Paixão de Cristo” are staged, respectively. |
