Goiânia |
Goiânia is a city totally planned, which started to be constructed in 1933 to be
the new capital of the State of Goiás. The works happened during the mandate of Governor Pedro Ludovico. The urban traces have streets in ray
shape, with “Praça Cívica” in the center of it. At “Praça Cívica” there are “Palácio das Esmeraldas” and “Palácio das Campinas”, respectively
seat of the State and City government.
In 1937, Goiânia was inaugurated, definitively assuming the position of State
capital, formerly occupied by the city of Goiás. Initially built to comport 50 thousand inhabitants, with a few more than 70 years, the city
already has 1 million residents. But even with the growth, Goiânia kept the idea of "cidade jardim" (garden city), with flowered squares,
wide streets and full of trees. |
