“Jardim Botânico de Goiânia” (Goiânia’s Botanical Gardens) is the biggest forest
reserve of the city, 1000000m² wide. Initially baptized as “Chico Mendes”, in honor to the famous Brazilian rubber extractor, it was inaugurated
in 1988 with the objective of preserving the green area with environmental education classes and conserving the local species.
Botanic Garden is divided in two areas: one destined to public visitation and
the other that works as an environmental reserve. In the part open to the public it’s possible to visit the amphitheater, with capacity for 300
people, walk through the grass area and visit the orchidary, besides obtaining more information about the fauna of the place, through “Centro
de Visitação e Pesquisa”. The restrict area, with 40 hectares; the visitation of students and professionals of the botanic area is possible, if
scheduled previously.
