Goiânia - Monuments - Monument to Explorer

Monument to Explorer

Monument to Explorer

Inaugurated in 1942, Monument to Explorer is located at the public square with the same name and was constructed in homage to “Bartolomeu Bueno da Silva”, tamer of the arid, which carried the nickname of “Anhanguera”. Says the legend that he earned this nickname due to a trick: convinced the indians to let him take whatever richness he wanted or he would set fire on the rivers. To make the Indians to believe it, he set fire on some alcohol.

The statue was made in bronze and stands 3 and a half meters tall, representing the explorer armed with a rifle. The piece was elaborated by artist Armando Zago.
