Goiânia - Monuments - Panels of Via Sacra

Panels of Via Sacra

Panels of Via Sacra

Panels of Via Sacra can be seen at “Rodovia dos Romeiros”, which connects Goiânia to Trindade. Made as a kind of open gallery, the 14 panels of artist Omar Souto narrate the main moments of “Paixão de Cristo”.

Each screen is 10m wide x 4m tall and were finished in 105 days, taking concrete and masonry in its composition. The panels’ formation suggests a shape of a huge altar and they were mounted in pairs on grassy fields. The illumination is made with spotlights.

A curious fact is the poetic license of the author of the work, who includes elements of the history of the region and even himself in the screens. One of them shows the little girl contaminated by Cesium 137 in the middle of 1987, in Goiânia.
